Top Signs That Your Spouse May Be Cheating on You
As a private investigator, I have many clients who want to find out if their spouse is having an affair. One of the first things I ask them is why they think their spouse is cheating. The one thing all infidelity cases have in common is that the client always notices some changes in their spouse’s behavior. These are the ones that I have heard over and over again:
Long absences, often unaccounted for. Typical behaviors: She goes out to buy milk but returns three hours later; starts working late nights at the office; or joins a book club but never reads. Explanation: She is meeting up with her boyfriend.
Secretive and increased phone/computer activity. Typical behaviors: He keeps his cell phone or Blackberry with him at all times and only takes calls in private; opens a new email account and doesn’t mention it; spends a lot of time on the computer after you’ve gone to bed; or joins Facebook but doesn’t invite you to join his network. Explanation: He is communicating with his girlfriend.
A sudden interest in her appearance. Typical behaviors: She starts going to the gym, buying nicer clothes, styling her hair differently, or wearing cologne. Explanation: She wants to look good for her boyfriend.
Increased spending. Typical behaviors: He starts withdrawing more cash than usual out of the bank or making unexplained purchases with his credit card (which you then notice on the statement). Explanation: He is wining and dining his girlfriend.
If you spouse starts exhibiting a few of these behaviors, it doesn’t mean he or she is definitely cheating on you. There could be a perfectly innocent explanation, such as your spouse is planning a surprise birthday party for you. But, if your spouse is a terrible planner and knows you hate surprises, the explanation is probably not so innocent. Follow your instincts. Often, my clients also have a gut feeling that something is wrong, and they are almost always right.
